Product reviews are a “dime a dozen”, they are everywhere on the internet.  You have the good, the bad and the indifferent.  Some are done from an honest heart, some for revenge, ignorance, for money and some just for hype.

However, amidst all the different reasons people write thousands of reviews daily, there are always people searching for product reviews to make decisions.

What Are Product Reviews?

A product review is a product-centred content that gives an in-depth insight of both the pros and cons of specific goods or services.  There are persons who write product review as a full-time job while there are others who do it mainly to promote the product or service they are trying to sell.

In my opinion, I believe product reviews should be done from an honest heart and be beneficial to potential consumers.  These reviews should be neutral and unbiased.  They should also prompt readers to discuss, rate, and comment on products they might have purchased or are thinking about buying.

The Role of Product Reviews

The purpose of a product review should so boost your its image and make it the sort after product.   I believe a lot of companies are ecstatic and excited at the influx of positive and free promotion their products get daily.

One of the reasons product reviews are so important is that customers are heavily-dependent on reviews so they should be authentic articles written by real users. So, reviews are social proof and help build trust and loyalty.

Consequently, if proof of a product’s or service’s quality gets corroborated by multiple and unrelated sources, this positive vibe resonates across the web. This boosts the odds that a prospective buyer will pick that particular product.

How to Write the Perfect Product Review

  1. Get a Hold of the Product

The best product reviewers are usually the ones who have the first-hand experience of the product.  It is advisable that a reviewer should have knowledge of the product by either purchase it or have used it.

  1. Become an Affiliate

If the company has an affiliate program it would be a good idea to become a part of it.  Being an affiliate makes sense because you’re promoting these products so it will help to build trust between you and your visitors to your website.

  1. Learn About Your Product(s)

Once you join affiliate programs or get access to products in any other way, make sure you do your research and study the product.  Be curious and find out everything about the brand and the product itself. Include competitors in your research and the whole industry as well, before you get started on your reviews.

  1. Be Honest

Full transparency is key.

  • People will quickly put two and two together, and they’ll notice (and inevitably raise a fuss) if you aren’t honest.
  • It’s always better to look at products through the buyer’s eyes. It makes no sense to trick your audience into thinking that your product has no flaws. Be balanced instead.
  • Honesty wins you credibility and users will become loyal and visit your blog or site anytime they want to make a purchase.

5.   Get a Discussion Going

Ask for feedback let people speak their mind and create a dedicated space for discussion. This will invite your readers to leave reviews — and user-generated reviews are tremendously powerful.

So, empower users to generate that content!

Last but not Least

Think about:

  • Who is this product for? Who is the target audience?
  • What are the basic details of the product?
  • Where would someone use this product?
  • When should someone use the product?
  • Why is this product useful or better than its competitors?
  • How does the product work?

These questions are great to use as your product description template when you want to accurately describe the product you are reviewing.
